CHELSEA

Once the sprawling farm of Clement Clarke Moore (best known today as the author of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas"), Chelsea is a vibrant neighborhood where gleaming new apartment buildings stand side-by-side with former warehouses (many now art galleries), factories (including the birthplace of the Oreo cookie), piers (like the one where the Titanic was supposed to dock), and the High Line which, in a decade, has become one of NYC's most popular attractions.

This walk traces the neighborhood's development from rural backwater to the home of some of the hottest real estate in town. If you want a more "off-the-beaten-track" presentation, this tour is for you!

Featured on the tour:  Chelsea Market (the former Nabisco factory) * Google's NYC headquarters * the birthplace of the English Muffin * General Theological Seminary * Historic 19th- and 20th-century churches * Chelsea Piers * some of the galleries that make up the Chelsea Gallery district * the High Line * the Meatpacking District * the Chelsea Hotel
