Central park

At 843 acres, Central Park is New York City's largest architectural work as well as being America's most famous landscaped park.

Our tour examines the impetus behind the creation of the park and the implementation of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux's unique "Greensward" plan. The presentation revels where their plan has been preserved, as well as looking at the subsequent additions and revisions that give the park its ever-changing character. In addition, we showcase some of the amazing "secrets" we've uncovered in the park over the years.

Featured on the tour:  The monument to Christopher Columbus in Columbus Circle * The monument to the USS Maine * Tavern on the Green and the finish line of the New York City Marathon * Sheep Meadow *
the Dairy * the Mall * Balto * Bethesda Terrace * the Lake * the Conservatory Water * the Ramble * Bow Bridge * Strawberry Fields and the Dakota *  the Metropolitan Museum of Art * the Obelisk ("Cleopatra's Needle") * the Great Lawn * Belvedere Castle * Seneca Village * ...and more!
